I choose to NOT vaccinate my child

Source: The Star
I have made the informed decision with the consensus of my husband to delay Isaac's vaccination until he's at least 2 years old. Then we'll decide from there whether if we want to proceed with it or not. He has taken all of his compulsory shots up until 4 months old.

Initially when I was pregnant, I was one of those judgmental person who thinks that mothers who choose not to vaccinate their children are crazy, ridiculous, selfish, and is putting their babies at risk for infectious disease.

And then, I was opened up the what vaccines contained and what are the adverse side effects that could potentially harm my child. I am grateful to one of my friend who introduced me into a group so that I can read up more on it and to consult them on my worries/concerns before making an informed decision. Noticed I keep using the word informed. I do not recommend people to just follow blindly on whether if they choose to vaccinate. The decision is yours. Do your own research.

Below are the reasons as to why I would want to delay Issac's vaccination :

(1) Do you know exactly what is being injected into your baby? I strongly suggest for you to read up on this article. It clearly states the breakdown and the effects of each of the vaccines on your child. You'll be surprised that most of the items listed down are toxic to your child's body. Look at some of the real cases on the adverse effects of a vaccine injury on a child - on a worse case, it could lead to death. Would you want to expose your child to it? Think about it.

Here are some links on cases where babies succumb to their vaccine injuries. I shall not post the pictures here but you may view them in the links below. It is very heart-wrenching.

Ian's Voice (I cried reading baby Ian's story.. so much of suffering)

(2) Vaccination does not equal to immunization. That explains the booster shots. Further, in my opinion it is better to allow your child to fight off the disease himself to strengthen his immune system naturally. It is all about good hygiene and proper sanitation.

(3) MMR vaccine causes autism. Read up here.

After reading all of the above, it is a risk that I'm not willing to take. To knowingly allow toxin being injected into my baby.

I am the mother. And as a mother, my role is to protect my child at all cost.

Reflection

Accordingly, tomorrow is suppose to be the day that I am to deliver my baby bear. And if nothing happens, I am to go into SDMC to be induced the following day. So either way, we will be seeing the baby bear by this week.

To me, it still feels surreal to the point that I can't believe that I am to be a mother. At age 28. Mother to a child. Wow. Amazing.

Surreal #1:
After carrying him for 9 months, we finally get to see, touch, and smell the baby. I really wonder how he will look like.

Surreal #2:
I can't believe it. I am about to give birth. Something that have plague me with fear since young. But yet, at this point in time, I am still surprisingly calm about it.

Surreal #3:
Will we be good parents? How am I to handle being promoted to be a mother? Will I be a good one? How will I know what to do?

Surreal #4:
Am I really prepared???

Like what all first-time mummies would tell me, no one is ever prepared to be a mother no matter how mch they read about it, ask people about it, or prepare themselves mentally about it. Maternal instinct will kick in naturally and eventually you will know what to do.

Well, I guess I will know when the time comes.
Which will be very soon.

p/s: I have a feeling the baby bear will come on the dot tomorrow. Just a hunch.

Giving Up

Taking the plunge and choosing to be a mother at a young age (28 year old) takes a lot of sacrifice from the part of the woman. There are so much to give up. So much of sacrifices to be made. So much of commitments.

And mind you, I am speaking from experience. I am already feeling that I am missing out so much on life in general being pregnant (and the baby is not even here yet). While I love being pregnant and expecting the little one, sometimes I couldn't help but sit back and think if it is all well worth the things that I have gave up or is giving up for.

Yes, unfortunately I feel that sometimes I am flying solo - trying to cope and comprehend all of these. It can get overwhelming. And men being men can lack the attentiveness. To them, life goes on as usual. No, it is not business as usual. Why does a woman has to give up so much whereas the men can resume their own lives as it was before?

I feel I lack support sometimes. :(
Take for instance the following situation :

(1) I have not been going out socializing with my colleagues/friends.
Because they will end up inevitably drinking and smoking and I don't intend to be the party-popper. Trust me, I LOVE hanging out for after-office drinks (or occasional clubs) but I have to sacrifice that because I am pregnant. And this will continue on even after I give birth because I intend to breastfeed. Eventually, I stop getting invites altogether.

(2) I don't work late anymore.
Not because I can't, but because I get tire out easily. And I have to eat dinner on time instead of calling for fast-food delivery. Plus, I don't feel safe driving by myself late in the evening in the current rainy weather these days. I don't even want to think if my career progression will be affected due to the pregnancy or not. I have learn to set aside my work commitments and learn to prioritize - a huge sacrifice when I am at the peak of my career, trying to climb the corporate ladder.

(3) I can't go out and entertain my clients.
This is the part of my job which I love but have to decline each time because I can't drink.

(4) I can't go to the gym in my free time.
Due to obvious reasons.

And when my activities are limited, I do get back home early (and by early I meant around 8:30pm) - what do I get? I stare at the four walls of my condo. Or hang out with my parents if they are free. All I am asking for is that it would be nice that I am being assured of the things that I am giving up is well worth it. All I want is for an emotional pillar and support.

All I want is to have someone to come back to at home. To talk to. To communicate. To share the excitement.

Is that so much to ask for?

I Miss You Popo

It's been 3 months since you've left us. I still think of you from time to time. Now with the baby boy coming along.. I really do wish that you can be a part of us to witness this joyous occasion. But I do know that you are in a much better place, in Jesus' arms - happy, healthy, and strong.

Until we meet again.

Some People Are Inconsiderate Like That

Here is another angry pissy thought-provoking post. I don't get it why some people will get all anal jittery once they find out that one of their female staff is pregnant. It is like the whole world will stop revolving. It's like the company will go bankrupt. It's like without you being around, everything will stop functioning.

For God's sake, maternity leave is only for 3 freaking months.

IT. IS. ONLY. FOR. THREE. MONTHS!!! NOT 3 YEARS! -.-"

I seriously find it damn discriminating ok when people give you that "Oh no! She's going on maternity leave, whose gonna fill up for her? What about her work?". Like as though it is a world-class disaster. *roll eyes*

Hello, in case if you don't know yet. It is our entitlement ok! If you are so kiasu then go get yourself knock up la, that way you can get your maternity leave too. Sheesh~

Here are my two-cents worth of rant. In point form.

(1) Just because I am pregnant doesnt mean that I am a slacker.
I still get my work done. And mind you, not some half-assed half-cooked job ok. When I need to stay back late, I still do simply because I am responsible like that and to make sure that everything is met on a tight dead date line. Unlike those who goes back on time. Everytime.

(2) Pregnancy doesn't make your brain juice freeze.
I am still capable of functioning like a normal working adult. My brains are still capable of thinking, planning, and analyzing. Unlike some of the people I know whose brains had perpectually freeze.

(3) I like to get things done. Fast.
Because I don't like the idea of abusing the "I'm pregnant" excuse and then pass on my work to my collegues. Unline those who likes to sit on their fat lazy ass and do nothing.

(5) Just because I am going on my maternity leave doesn't mean you can pile up more work for me.
The minute that I found out I was pregnant and the expected delivery date, I have already planned out on my own to prioritise my workflow. This is to ensure that I give minimal inconvenience to those who are relieving me. This is also to ensure that I get all my work done before going off for my maternity. Because I am  [refer to point 1,2, and 3 above].

So please! Do not come and give me the bullshit notion that I am slacking and that me going on my maternity leave is a huge freaking deal ok.

p/s: Happy thoughts! Happy thoughts! not good for the baby. :)

Thought of the Day

Last weekend, I was in AEON Bukit Tinggi with Bear and my father-in-grace. We were hanging around in Starbucks and people-watching when we saw a group of family. The family was quite big and they have a youngest son who was sitting in the trolley. He was throwing a massive tantrum and the maid was there to calm him down. The boy was about 6-7 years old.

Initially we were amazed at how the parents can allow for the boy to misbehave in such a manner. And then, it occured to us that the boy has Down Syndrome or an illness which is somewhere along that line.

And then, it hit me.

I just had a detailed blood test and an anomaly scan done on my baby. Thank God the results all came back good and that my baby is a healthy and fully-developed little one.

As I was watching the commotion in front of me, a lot of "What If" played through my mind. What if that child was mine? What if I found out at the early stage i.e. during pregnancy that I am carrying a child who has Down Syndrome?

It is so easy to look at others and go all pitiful on the parents of the child and the child but think about it, if it does happen to you, what will you do? What can you do?

Sometime back, my colleague did the blood test and the result came back that she was carrying a child with potentially at a high risk of Down Syndrome. She had to go for further test to get a confirmation. Meanwhile, she was seriously contemplating on aborting the child if need be. She was at that time 4-5 months into the pregnancy. Her reason is simple : Why let the child suffer? When the parents is no longer around, how can the child fend for himself? How will society look at that child? Thank God the test came back negative and now the boy is a healthy, cute, and smart 2-year old boy.

And then there are some like my boss who had decided not to do the test at all because she was determined to carry the child through regardless if he/she has Down Syndrome or not. So what's the point of doing the test?

For me, I would want to know because I need to be prepared in case of anything. And if the result is not favourable, I would still carry on with the pregnancy because abortion at 4-5 months into the pregnancy is too cruel. It's no difference than murdering your own child.

However, it is easier said than done. If it does happen, I don't think emotionally I can be sure if I can make the correct decision. What is the correct decision anyway?

I am not here to judge. Different people has different ways to tackle the situation.
What would yours be?

Please Don't Over-React

Source: Google

Throughout my pregnancy, I have been more of a happy-go-lucky mummy except for the first trimester as oppose to those paranoid mummies out there. Don't get me wrong, I am not here to condemn as everyone is entitled to their own opinions. What I meant by paranoid is over-worrying to the point where you almost live in a glass bubble. To the point that it gets quite irritating.

I have been given "advises" on what you should or shouldn't do, what you should or shouldn't eat etc. To me, I only listen to one person and that's Dr Delaila. I feel pregnant mums should not over-react, our bodies are made tough. The baby in your womb is made tough. To me, so long as everything is done in moderation then everything will be fine.

And we all know the cause of miscarriages is primarily due to your body's natural reaction to "expel" anything that is unhealthy, or due to a fall, or due to sickness ... not due to what you eat or what you do.

Food:
I have been eating as normal except for half-boil eggs and raw food (risk of bacteria), clams (risk of Hepatitis), and pineapple. All the above were told by Dr Delaila to not consume. Aside from that, I've been told by others to not eat "cooling" stuff like watermelon, "heaty" stuff like durians, and "herbal" stuff like bak kut teh.

Honestly, I still eat them when I feel like it. I just don't eat a lot of those and I eat them less frequently. Come on! Two slices of watermelon won't cause miscarriage! Once in two months of bak kut teh won't cause miscarriage! Pineapple slices in a slice of pizza won't cause miscarriage! Don't be too paranoid!!

In fact, just past few days I had Japanese with Bear and took two slices of sashimi. If others find out, I'm sure to be lectured. It's only two pieces, what harm will it cause?

I still enjoy my coffee and tea occasionally (although Dr Delaila say try to avoid), but I have taken the effort to cut down a lot. No big deal. *shrug*

Of course certain items are a big no-no like alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs.

Carrying Heavy Stuff:
I work in an office and would sometimes required to carry files. I just make sure that it is within my limitation and I don't over-exert. I don't believe that once you are pregnant you should be immobile and just sit and do nothing. Being pregnant doesn't mean that you are disable! You are still as capable as the rest of your colleagues.

Radiation:
This is the worse "do not do" item I have ever heard!! Stay away from handphones! Stay away from computer! Heloo!!!! Before you were pregnant also you were exposed to these items what - why now only you want to be so overly concerned?? Your baby is strong enough to withstand it ok. Takkan you want to live in a  bubble wrap?

In fact, I am typing this blog post using the laptop which is resting on my lap. *gasps* Radiation alert? I think not.

With lots of prayer, trusting God, doing everything in moderation, keeping yourself joyful and happy - everything will fall into place. :)

Pressure Cooker

Recently both me and Bear has been bombarded with the "When are you having a baby" question. I know family, relatives, and friends meant well, but it is quite pressuring at times for me at least. Both of us do not have a planned dateline as to when we wanna have a baby .. we are taking the "if it happens, it happens" approach.

Of course personally, I would love to have one of my own. Trust me on this, I ADORE children!! But when month after month comes and I don't get pregnant, I do sometimes get terrified worried that something may be wrong with me. But then again on the other hand, we have not been "trying" per say .. so I guess my worrying is not justifiable.

I don't want to be blaming people, but this occasional paranoia does stem from the pressure that (I feel) I am getting to conceive in time for the Dragon Year. Sometimes, I hope our loved ones would just take a seat back and let both of us enjoy our companionship and if God willing we would have our own bundle of joy. In our own timing. Unpressured.

P/S: Dread the on-coming CNY, where people would ask again. sigh ~

The Ugly Duckling

The Ugly Duckling that everybody kutuk

When I was much younger (read: primary school), I was the ugly duckling amongst my schoolmates. Why? Because I look like Ugly Betty with my nerdy plastic-framed glasses and above all, I walk funny ... like a duck. When I walk, both my feet will point inwards. Those "friends" of mine would purposely call out my name and make me walk towards them, and then they snickered behind my back in front of me. Yes, kids can be cruel too!

At that stage, even my parents was puzzled as to why am I walking like that. At one point, they were even seriously contemplating to either send me for ballet or those model-catwalk classes they should have cause I may have become a model by now because at that time, they thought that it was my bad posture which caused me to walk like a duck.

It wasn't until much later in my college/university years that I found out the actual reason of me walking like that - I have bunion on both my feet. Bunion is the bone that protrudes out from the side of your big toe. It causes the toes to constrict together looking like a fan (yes I know .. very strange metaphor I'm using). Bunion will usually cause flat feet as well. Because of the bunion, when I walk it tends to point inwards - like flippers. Common sense la, since all the toes points inward like a fan. Also, I tend to trip on my own feet. Weird I know 0_o

I think my bunion is bigger than this

This disorder was caused genetically. We didn't see a doctor specifically to check out the condition, it was so-happened that I was at Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre (KLSMC) to check-up on my spinal cord (will come to that later) that the doctor pointed out to my condition. The bunion doesn't cause me any physical pain .. just that aesthetically it doesn't look too pretty and of course naturally I have a hard time looking for shoes/heels as the bunion tend to "be in the way".

Now you know how it looks like

According to Dr. Low Tze Choong (highly recommended!) who specialises in foot and ankle problems, he recommends that I go for a micro-surgery to correct the problem. Thereafter, I would need to wear this ugly special sandal for 6 months during the recovery. Of course being the wuss that I am on all things hospitals and surgeries, I have been delaying for years. Heh~

Dr. Lee Tze Choong

Back to why I was at KLSMC in the first place, aside from my duckling feet, I also hunch very bad. Yes, bad posture yada~ yada ~ I look sloppy yada~ yada~ ... I've heard it all. And at one point in time, I really did try to be cautious of my posture. Making sure that I stand and sit straight all the time. But everytime when I do that, my back tends to be quite sore (almost like a backache). I couldn't understand why that I find hunching relaxes my back. My parents couldn't either they thought I was talking cock.

Hunchback of Notre Dame

This all changed when one of those random days I followed my parents to the physiotherapist and she pointed out that my back is crooked. And I was like huh?! o_O. It didn't occur to me at all that I have a crooked back. And that is the cause of why I hunch so bad all these while. I promptly went for an X-Ray and voila~ I have Scoliosis. Scoliosis causes your spine to curve. This condition was also inborn and I have no idea why I so suey kena

And then it all fell into place, no wonder when I wear bra or spaghetti strap, the strap on my left always fall to my shoulders - it is because of the curve of the spine, which causes my shoulders to slouch to the left, which causes my left leg to be shorter than my right leg. This is also the reason why my right heels always wear off faster than my left!

A normal straight back vs. the curve back

That was went we were recommended to see a chiropractor. I was a patient of Kiropraktis in Subang for a period of time until I've got too lazy to go under the charming and hensem Dr. Andre Abader who is a fair Muslim South African. Did I mention that he is cute? :)

He told me that the reason why I hunch is because my body is doing what is natural i.e. to support the curvature of my spine. There is no cure for Scoliosis unfortunately, however the damage can be controlled by visiting the chiropractor regularly and to wear the special insole (of which I also malas wanna wear already) which will help align your back. Nowadays, I have been reading the papers and apparently there is a special brace too to support your spine.

A female Scoliosis patient will have problem with pregnancy. Why? Because when you are carrying a baby, there is additional weight so it could cause backache. Also, it could be harder for us to deliver (read: more painful) as the pelvic bone is lopsided. Well, looks like I would need to contact my gynea when the time comes for me to conceive then. :) And I trust God that everything will be fine.

The cute Dr. Andre. This picture doesn't do him justice!

So now you know why am I the hunchbacked-duckling. Now that I have gained knowledge on my so-called "defects", I have learned to embrace my differences.

The-Not-So-Ugly-Duckling :)

Happy First Anniversary Love

They say that time flies when you are having fun. Couldn't have agreed more. It is quite unbelievable that me and Bear is already married for 1 year (prior to this, was courting for 7 years!). I can still remember vividly our wedding day and our 7 years of courtship .. it all seems only like yesterday. Of course in this past year, we do argue and have our disagreements because we are still adapting to each other idiosyncrasies. How do we manage so far?  Well here is a 101 on marriage - based on my own experience, the top 5 items in the order of what we disagree the most.

Church Wedding @ 09/10/2010

(5) Household Chores.
Yes, believe it or not we do sometimes bicker about this. Honestly, I for one do not like household chores who does? but I will still do it anyway at my own time. Yes, the key word is at my own time. Sometimes, my husband will come back and pass a comment like "Eh, the clothes are not folded yet.. can you do it soon?" or sometimes "We better mop/sweep/vacuum the floor today etc". If I don't have the mood for it, I won't do it because I simply don't feel like it. Having said that, I would always make sure that whatever that is needed to be done, is done. Eventually.

Mount Cook, NZ

Solution: Communication! We talk about it. The husband is also kind enough to understand where I'm coming from. To me, most importantly, no matter how I procrastinate I will still get the chores done because it is what I've promised to do. Eventually. :)

Phi-Phi Island

(4) Habits.
This is something that is unavoidable because you have two different individuals staying together. There are bound to be frictions. There are bound to be things which I find extremely irritating about. Likewise for the husband too. For e.g. he loves to drink straight from the carton, I don't condone to that because it is unhygienic. Or for me, I am quite careless and has a habit of leaving things lying around, yes he does lecture me quite a few times.

Goofing around in the house

Solution: Sometimes it is good to overlook on trivial things. After all, your husband comes in a package deal - you take the good, you take the bad also. However, when there are certain habits that is impossible for you to overlook, it is good to bring it up and discuss about it. But most of the time, you just close one eye and ignore la .. focus on the good attributes only.

Singapore

(3) Priorities.
Before marriage, both of you have your own things to do in your spare time, which doesn't include your spouse. For my husband, it is his Monday futsal and Wednesday badminton time with his boys. Of course, I don't oppose to it. But initially when I was married to him, he comes back home really late after his sessions curi go to the mamak I presume. Also, due to the nature of his job, occasionally he tends to work late on weekdays. It came to a point that was so bad that I actually spent more time with my parents (thank God I stay real near to my parents' place) than with my own husband. He also had this weird habit of sleeping outside in the living hall. -_-"

Church

Honeymoon in Jeju Island, Korea

Solution: Before I meletup at his face, I sat him down and explained the situation to him. He was really understanding and tried to make a change so that he spends more time at home. Now he still goes for his boys' thingy but he would regulate his timing as well. Word of caution: NEVER EVER STOP YOUR HUSBAND FROM HAVING HIS ALONE BOYS' TIME!!!

Lake Tekapo, NZ

(2) Submission.
We've been taught in church that the wife is to submit to the husband as he is the head of the house. Likewise, the husband is to love the wife as how Christ loves us. And let me tell you, submission is not easy especially if you are a working career-minded woman who is used to having things her way. Also, sometimes when I wanna go clubbing with my colleagues he may not allow me, but I will usually die-die also go wan la. Yes, I am still learning ok!

Wedding dinner in Putrajaya Marriott @ 10/10/10

Solution: In this category, I don't think I fare that badly. To me, it is important to discuss everything with your husband first, not to seek approval, but to get his concurrence and his views/opinions on the subject matter. Remember, there can only be one decision-maker in the house.

12 Apostles, Melbourne

(1) Finances
Really really sensitive issue. Every couple will fight and argue over it. Who is to handle the finances of the house? Who is to pay what? Are you suppose to split right down to the middle? Can you trust your spouse with your money? Is he hiding anything from you? Is he spending for his own personal consumption? All these questions do plague me once in awhile, I can't help it.

Honeymoon in Seoul, Korea

Random Picture

Solution: Talk about it. When it comes to finances, be open and discuss your concerns. Share your thoughts. It is very important to nip the problem in the bud than to let it escalate. The issue of finances can break a marriage.

Engagement Shoot

All in all, communication is the most important thing in a marriage. Trust comes a close second. We both are still in the first leg of marriagehood, there would be many more joy, happiness, tears, and arguments that will come our way. But, I am confident that we will be able to sail through them because through these experience, it will make only make us appreciate our marriage more.

Phuket, Thailand ...

Where he proposed back in 31 May 2009 <3

To the most loving, understanding, goofy, and snoring husband of mine. Here's to a long happy marriage and I love you despite the weight gain. Happy First Year Anniversary *muaks~!*

Muaks .. Love you lots busuk bear :)

Plastic Surgery

Pretty or not?

For those who don't know, her name is Angelababy (she gave herself that name don't ask me why). She recently shot to stardom in her modelling career due to her good looks and beautiful figure. And she is not Korean or Japanese, she is a Hongkie. She is almost perfect in her outer-beauty. Everyone thinks that she is blessed to be born with such good genes. Natural beauty? Do you really think that a person can be born with extraordinary looks such as hers?

Think again.

Let's do a further case study on some of the stars and celebrities that we know. As you go along, you will notice that I only took Chinese celebs as comparison because I am an Asian Chinese so it is easier and more obvious to pin-point the "fixes".

Case 1 : Elaine Kwong Yeuk Lam.

I first saw her in E.U and I thought she is really cute and pretty with her big doe-like eyes. Then, as I was reading through the tabloids on TVB artists, there were talks that she actually went through plastic surgery. And this is her before and after surgery photos:

Case 2 : Tavia Yeung Yi.

Everyone knows that she is the up and coming big star of TVB. And she is very very pretty in my opinion. Recently, there were hu-ha that she did her nose. I don't understand why she wants to fix her face .. what is wrong with her nose?? Existingly she has very nice nose bridge, high enough to put most people to shame and envy.

Case 3 : Dawn Yang.

Close to our shores, we have the famous pretty Dawn Yang from Singapore. Of course, she vehemently denied of doing any plastic whatsoever. But pictures and findings from others proof otherwise. You be the judge.

The purpose of this post is not to condemn those who had done plastic surgery, rather I would like to understand why people do it? Whilst some of these girls like Tavia Yeung is not perfect, she is already very beautiful. Why the need to be perfect? I think plastic surgery is addictive because you will always find flaws with your appearance. No one is perfect and in the quest of perfection, people turn to surgery.

The next question is : Will I turn to plastic surgery assuming that money is no issue and there is no risk?

I would probably go for liposuction and a tummy-tuck because I have gained tremendous weight. Probably do something about my height too.

For my face .. I wouldn't change anything except to straighten my teeth and probably do something about my eyebags. And the picture below is me purely without makeup.

With the aid of professional makeup and photography, I think I don't look too bad. :) Not to say that I am praising myself, but there are others who looks far worse than me. Even some of the stars *cough**angelababy*cough* looked worse than me before plastic surgery. Patient guys, I will reveal the before plastic picture of Angelababy to you at the end of this post.

Genesis 1:27 " So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created Him; male and female He created them."

Joke aside, I don't think I will change anything about my appearance. Because I am already naturally blessed with good and fair skin, big brown eyes, and not too bad looks even without makeup. For that, I am extremely thankful to God. :)

Still remember the hot babe, Angelababy? Let me refresh your memory a bit.

And this is a side-to-side comparison of Angelababy before and after surgery.

Abortion

I'm sorry to disgust you on a Friday just before lunch time. But I feel that I have to draw people's attention to the dramatic picture above. In case if you are wondering, it is not an alien but a 8-weeks old embryo (according to Daily Chilli) which was aborted.

Which brings me to the topic for the day : Abortion.

I am not here to judge people but the general view is that abortion is okay for babies who have not reach its fetus stage yet - i.e. usually in the first trimester which is the embryo stage. Reason? Because the baby is not "formed" yet. From the picture above, it is CLEAR that you can actually tell that it has already taken on a human form even at the embryonic stage.

So tell me now, isn't abortion akin to murder?
Think about it.

Love is patient, Love is kind

I don't know what prompt me to pen down this entry probably it's because Bear finally allowed me to go to Bangkok end of this year after days of pestering probably when I look around at my friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and family members; they always remind me that I am very blessed to be married to my current husband.

In Chinese there is a saying that goes :

"Anything else is not important for a woman, most importantly she must be married to a good man"

How true.

Why am I blessed to be stuck with my husband?
  1. Because he is Hainanese and you know what they say about Hainanese men? They love their wives to bits.

  2. Because he provides for me - financially, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

  3. Because he loves and cares for me unconditionally despite my mood swings.

  4. Because he tries as much as he can to accommodate to my requests, whims, and fancies - no matter how absurd and strange it sounds.

  5. Because he gives me ample freedom, be it a night out drinking and clubbing with my friends or for an all-girls road trip.

  6. Because he trust me.

  7. Because he is very patient with me and had never raise his voice at me before.

  8. Because he is God-fearing and dare not doesn't cheat on me.

  9. Because he has an uncanny liking towards household chores.

  10. Because he always makes me feel special and most importantly he remembers significant dates (even the date which he proposed to me which I shamelessly forgot :p).

No doubt we have our fair share of arguments, ups and downs, and idiosyncrasies. Sometimes he we drive each other up the walls too. But all in all, if I were given a choice to select a husband all over again ... I would still choose Bear. *heart*

p/s: The Hainanese part is true ok! Tried and tested. :)

My Thoughts on the 9 July 2011 Bersih Rally

Bersih’s request is well ... fair.
My stand is simple, if you have nothing to hide then why oppose to a more transparent election? Democracy is all about fairness and the freedom of speech right? I have to applaud Bersih for its courage to stand up to the Government and act as the voice of the Rakyat. It is high time that we are being represented by an organization who acts as a watchdog of the Government. The Rakyat are getting more and more eloquent and knowledgeable. We are no longer living in the Dark Ages.

Illegality?
May I ask why go to the extreme to outlaw Bersih? Did they threaten the security of the nation? Did they raise any racial sentiments? Did they wage a war against the Government? Never once did Bersih raise the issue of race. In fact, Ibrahim Ali should be arrested for his slanderous remarks and his threats time and again against all the other races. Doesn’t his act warrant him to be detained under the ISA? Shouldn’t then Perkasa be disbanded and made illegal? Food for thought.

Enough with the racial issues already!

Ibrahim Ali should learn to shut the f up. If it was not because of him, the rally would be a peaceful one. Enough with the “Ketuanan Melayu” thing. No one has challenged that before so don’t keep mentioning about it. Sudah lapuk already ok. By the way, where were you on July 9? Batang hidung pun tak nampak. Wuss ~

Opposition parties who has other ideas.
What I didn’t like was the fact that opposition parties took this opportunity to jump into the bandwagon and rode on Bersih for their own personal gain. Let’s all be focus here … Bersih’s ultimate motive is for a clean election NOT for other political parties to state their propaganda – you can save it for the General Election later.

Compromise.

Bersih took one-step back and compromised by agreeing to hold the rally in a Stadium instead of on the streets during its audience with the King. Why can’t then the damn permit to Stadium Merdeka be granted to Bersih? What do you mean by asking them to hold their rallies in “their own stadium”? Isn’t Stadium Merdeka the Rakyat’s? If the permit was granted, the protestors would all be contained in the Stadium and would be easier for the police force and FRU to monitor. Seems that the authorities are doing whatever they can to stop Bersih from seeking a fair election.

Brutality against the Rakyat.
Yes, am sure that we have seen loads of videos and pictures depicting the police and FRU firing tear-gas, spraying water, and using batons on the protestors. Judging from them, it seems that the armed forces went ahead too far to “silence” the protestors. If it was a peaceful rally with no rowdiness, all weapons should be used sparingly (or not at all) against the Rakyat. When you use brute force on the Rakyat, you expect them to retaliate. And, by the way all hospitals are off limits.

But on the other hand, how else do you expect the armed forces to disperse the massive crowds? How are they gonna do a crowd control? You be the judge.

Leadership?
I feel that our PM should have stepped in and had a discussion with Bersih – to try to find ways to settle the issue amicably. During the height of the rally, our PM was “doing his usual official business” i.e. attending the Flora Exhibition in Putrajaya. Come on … which one should be placed at a higher priority? He left it to the “good” hands of the PDRM and FRU. It is almost like a coup/junta situation – a country run by armies. So disappointed.

In the true spirit of 1Malaysia.
Despite it all, I also saw all races of Malay, Chinese, and Indian came together and unite as one fighting for the same cause, helping each other in need, and supporting one another. I have never seen unity such as this before. Truly heart warming – shows that we can be one as Malaysian regardless of race if we choose to.

One thing's for sure, the events that unfolded on 9 July 2011 will forever be etch in our minds and hearts.

On 9 July 2011, the Rakyat finally came together, united for a call of a fair and trasparent election.

Top 10 Most Irritating Drivers in Malaysia

#10 : The "Bom-Bom Pow" Drivers.
... aka "The Nigga-Wannabees".

Diagnosis:
These are the drivers who would blast their speakers' volume to the max with hip-hop music. It is so loud and screeching that even with the windows up and miles away, you can actually still hear and feel the beat.

My conclusion:
1) They are deaf.
2) Attention seeker.
3) They are deaf.

#9: The UFO Drivers.
... aka "The La-La/Ah Bengs/Ah Lians".

Diagnosis:
Closely related to drivers #10. I don't understand why would you install hideous lights at inappropriate places on the car. It serves no purpose whatsoever and it is not even aesthetically pleasing to the eye in the first place. 0_o"

My conclusion:
1) They are blind.
2) They are blind.
3) They are blind.

#8: The Scardy-Cat Drivers.
... aka "The Road Hoggers"

Diagnosis:
These are the "want to go - don't want to go" type. They hesitate and wait for clearance before moving forward. And by clearance I mean TOTALLY cleared of cars. Typical example is at the roundabout or when doing a turning during peak hours. They also have the tendency to hog the fast lanes. These drivers would also leave behind a trail of traffic jam behind them.

My conclusion:
1) You shouldn't be behind the wheels
2) Only come out in the middle of the night or wee hours of the morning

#7: The Multi-Taskers.

Diagnosis:
Have you seen drivers who are behind the wheels while talking on the phone, eating, and trying to apply mascara at the same time? ... I rest my case.

My conclusion:
If you want to endanger others, kindly do so at your own expense.

#6: The "Takes-Forever-to-Park" Drivers.

Diagnosis:
Look into the rearview mirror, can't you see that there is a queue forming steadily at the back? The "Takes-Forever-to-Reverse-the-Car-Out-from-the-Parking-Lot" drivers also falls into this category.

My conclusion:
Unfortunately, I sometimes fall into this category too.
1) Get someone else to help park your car for you.
2) Hire a jockey.

#5: The Double-Parkers.

Diagnosis:
Most selfish drivers in the world who don't give a rat's ass about other people's timing.

My conclusion:
1) The cars should be towed away.
2) The owner be put to jail for 3 months plus a fine of RM3,000/=.
3) Repeat offenders should be tied down and watch other people scratch their cars using coins.

#4: The Queue-Cutters.

Diagnosis:
Be civilised - wait in line like everyone else. You are not the only one pressing for time. When we are nice enough to occasionally let you pass, please have the decency to waive a hand of thanks.

My conclusion:
1) Moronic drivers.
2) Refer to #5.

#3: The Drivers who Don't Indicate.
(or misused the Hazard Lights)

Diagnosis:
The thing sticking out at the side of your steering is called an indicator. It was created for a purpose. Use it. We are not superheroes who can read minds. And you DO NOT on your hazard lights unless your car is STATIONARY, not when it is raining heavily and your car is moving.

My conclusion:
The license should be revoked.

#2: The High-Beamers.
(HID lights included)

Diagnosis:
We are not blind. We can see you.

My conclusion:
1) HID should be banned forever.
2) Tie these drivers up and high-beam directly into their eyes for 2 hours.

#1: The Most Irritating Drivers on My List - The Wankers Honkers

Diagnosis:
You do not purposely accelerate while pressing on your honk from miles away when people has indicated that they want to turn into your lane. Please refrain from doing idiotic things like this. Plus, I am not deaf I can hear you loud and clear.

My conclusion:
1) License should be revoked forever.
2) Tie these drivers up and honk in their face for 2 hours.

And here are my top ten list of the most irritating drivers in Malaysia. ~urgh!

Snippets : Half Year into 2011

Exercising:
I have been consistantly going for my Jazzercise class save for the whole of last month. My stamina has yet to improve as I will be panting for air halfway through class. The cycle will go something like this :

7:30pm - Still feeling semangat. Kinda.
7:45pm - Start to regret going for class
7:55pm - Hallucinate that I will faint anytime
8:00pm - Keep staring at the damn clock willing it to move faster
8:15pm - Start to enjoy the toning up session
8:20pm - Start to regret being so gungho carrying a 2x5kg dumbell
8:25pm - Feels good to streetccchhhh
8:30pm - Can't wait to get back to class again.

Losing Weight:
I have been trying to avoid eating carbs during dinner to try to shed off some kilos. Some of my colleagues suggested that I go without dinner all-together. Personally, I think that they are mad. Gotta say I did alright for two days only and then most of the time occasionally I caved into half a bowl of rice. Aiihh.. kecewa betul ...

Despite my combined efforts of exercising and (kind of) watching my diet, I've only lost a measly 1kg. :( Losing weight is harder than I thought. Anyone can recommend me good packages to slimming centres?

Work:
God has been faithful all along the way :) Difficult people He removed. Difficult situation He gave me the wisdom to overcome. There were changes in terms of movement of staff but He has been good to me - he has placed amazing people whom I can work with and can mentor me. I seriously have nothing to complain about. Thank God for his favor and blessing upon me. :)

Marriage:
Being a Mrs has been an enjoyable journey (so far). Hubby has been treating me good and he has an uncanny liking to household chores (yeah to me!). I have gotten used to not staying with my parents and having to stay by myself sometimes in the night. I have also learn to compromise and not be petty when the hubby needs to spend time with his male-buddies (i.e. sports).

Entertainment:
Totally irrelevant but I am into Dog Whisperer now. Ceaser Milan you da man!

Pregnancy:
Don't get too excited just yet. I am not pregnant. And I don't understand why people around me has been asking me if I am pregnant or not. Hellooo.. gaining weight does not equal to pregnancy hor.

Some said my hips are big = pregnant.
NOT TRUE! I have fat huge ass assets.
Both front AND back *ahem*
And proud of it! :D ask my hubby .. he is not complaning

Despite that, sometimes I do have the instinct to want to have my own kid soon (labour pain put aside first). But other times, I don't want to so fast as I still want to enjoy and hang out with my friends in clubs and pubs. Oh well, let's see how it goes.

Annoying People:
Yes, I have encountered a few annoying ones here and there - some are close to me some are mere acquitances. But anoying nontheless. I wonder how can some people think so highly of themselves - in the expense of putting others down?

Sorry but actual people who are actually good at what they are doing usually don't brag. Stupid people does - like those tin kosong. When you bang an empty tong, it creates noise. Yup, noise and annoyance. Nothing else.

Travelling:
Can't wait to head to New Zealand in August with my family!!!!!! I refuse to think about the 13 hours gruelling flight

Also another one to a SECRET PLACE for my birthday-cum-first year anniversary in September. Will be hijacking the husband to a deserted island with no telephone reception. muahahaahhaaha~ All I can reveal is that the place is a 5-star resort on a paradise island. *can't wait!!*

Alright, guess that's my half yearly update for now.
Chiow~

Open Letter to the 16-year Old Me

-Was inspired to write about this after reading from other blogs -

Hello you,

At 16, you have a close set of friends who are aptly called The Slim Shady Group. We even have a designated spot in school and some sort of a “handshake sign”. You wont be that close anymore with these friends but you will make it a point to gather at least once a year during Chinese New Year for a catch-up session over dinner. In fact, you will be going on a weekend trip to Langkawi with them 11 years later in May 2011.

At 16, you thought you will end up having a career which is science related – most likely along the lines of pharmacy. Your dream is to be a veterinarian because you love animals. Pharmacy was your parents’ choice.

At 16, you began to develop some sort of an inferiority complex. It will last though to your college/university years. You feel ugly and inadequate. You compare yourselves against your girlfriends. Sometimes you feel depress. Don’t worry, you will snap out of it eventually. Thank God.

At 16, being in an all-girls school you start to try to get attention of boys. In a tuition centre. It will be the same tuition centre that your younger brother goes to 10 years later. You somehow managed to catch the attention of one particular boy – who turned out to be your boyfriend eventually. For 1-week. It will be your first time holding hands. That’s it. From time to time, you will still see him around your housing area because he lives nearby. It will still be awkward even 10 years later.

At 16, in the same tuition center, you developed a major crush on a person – who is half a twin. Unfortunately, the whole world somehow knew about it. Even him. It was embarrassing because you will start to stalk him, doodle his name on papers, and fantasize about him. 10 years later, you wonder what you see in him back then. Because he is not even remotely good looking / charming.

At 17, your Ah Ma will pass away unexpectedly from pneumonia. Everyone will be in shock. But good things came out of it, because by year end you and your family accepted Christ. You also scored 2As, some Bs, and Cs for your SPM. Not exactly great because you have always been a top scorer in both UPSR and PMR. Don’t get upset, because you will soon realize that SPM is just a piece of paper and holds no value in the working world.

At 18, you will go on to do your A-Levels in Science. In the end, your career won’t even have anything to do with Science at all.

You will begin to ponder if you will ever find a boyfriend, get married, and settled down at the rate you are going.

Your dream of owning a dog will come true round about this time. You will name him Max.

In university, you gave up on Science and changed direction to do a Business course – you tried Accounting (failed!) and settled for Economics and Finance. Secretly, you hate finance. Yes, years later… you will still hate finance.

At 19, you finally dated a guy from church. He is 3 years your senior. Initially, you will not be attracted to him because he is rather big in size compared to your petite figure. You should give him a chance because he will turn out to be a great guy. He will end up becoming your steady boyfriend for 7 years. He will be your first love, your first kiss, your first everything *ahem*. In those 7 years, you will see that he is a caring, sincere, and genuine guy. You will end up marrying him when you are 27.

Since you always wonder about whether if you will ever be successful in the working world given that your character is timid and shy, trust me when I say that you will end up becoming a corporate banker in a prestigious organization with great pay, increment, and bonus. You also will have a close bunch of colleagues whom you often club and bitch with

Initially, you cry sometimes because of the pressure and you are clueless on what is going on. All you have to do is persevere and work hard. Because within a short span of 3 years you got yourself promoted. Well done girl!

Oh yes, and you jumped job once.

I am proud to inform you; in the next 10 years of your life, you will do great and climb the corporate ladder steadily. You have God in your life. You have a loving husband by your side. Your family members are all healthy. Along the way, you will experience the passing on of some of your relatives, which I shall not elaborate. Not to worry, you will emerge out of the whole ordeal strong and will take a whole new approach in life.

On when will you be a mother, you have to ask yourself 15 years down the road ok.

Love;
The-27-year-old-me
(10 years on)
