Review : Goodbye Forever! Spray & Minty Aloe Jello by Honeypot Wax Boutique

Since it was my first time doing a Brazilian (by now the whole world would've known), the sexy kitty, Corrine at Honeypot Wax Boutique encouraged me to buy two of their products - namely Goodbye Forever! Spray 125ml (RM100/=) and Minty Aloe Jelly 100ml (RM80/=). Yes, I've got to admit that the products are not exactly cheap as the bottles are small if you are kiam then you can use very very sparingly.

Don't worry the kitties at Honeypot will not force and hard-sell for you to purchase their stuff or sign up on their packages unlike Strip!. So far, I have been using the products for two whole weeks and it is really really good!


Why did I splurge?

1. Why not? It is my most private part *ahem* and I reckon that it is not right to stinge on care-products for the area down there.
   
   
2. I've heard and read of horror stories regarding ingrown hairs and unbearable itchiness so I am determined to put a stop it - even before it starts.
   
   
3. It looks disgusting and unsightly with ingrown hairs sticking sideways down there imagine the horror for your husband/boyfriends!!!
   
   
4. I had a problem with eczema and severe folliculitis on my legs a couple of years back. It was so bad that I had to go on oral and cream steroids. There was no particular incident that triggered it, it just happened. My legs has open wound (which looks like slabs of salami) and it won't dry up. Needless to say, it took me almost 2 years to solve the problem and the scars still remains on my legs. Like they say, once bitten twice shy. So for this time, I also took precaution and ready myself to prevent any outbreaks.

Product Review - An Honest Opinion.

- Goodbye Forever! Spray 125ml (RM100/=)

What is it?
This product reduces ingrown hair and thus prevent itchiness. It is a calming treatment spray formulated with salicylic acid (to exfoliate gently), witch hazel (to cleanse pores), and montana flower extract (to sooth the skin). You only need to spray on directly into the area and gently rub in for two-weeks immediately after waxing before the hair grows.

Feeling?
The product once sprayed is cooling. As you gently exfoliate your skin, your area there feels much more cleaner and lighter. You can almost feel the dead skin being scrubbed off. And a very good plus point, it smells sweet because of the montana flower extract *sniff*

My Verdict.
Amazing!! No ingrown hairs at all!! Zero!! Also no bumps and red angry zits. All the hair that are grown out are sparse and thin not curly, thick, and dense. I highly recommend this product to others to eradicate ingrown hairs completely!

Tips: Use it BEFORE the hair is grown out.

- Minty Aloe Jello 100ml (RM80/=) :

What is it?
This is a moisturizer which softens the skin. The aloe vera has antibacterial, caring, and soothing properties. And the mint gives a very cooling effect.

Feeling?
This product is awesome awesome awesome!! I use it after the Goodbye Forever! Spray. Because it has aloe vera properties in it, it gives a very soothing feeling. Occasionally when your down there itches (especially 1-3 days after waxing), this product works wonders. It stops the itch almost instantly!! Plus point, the mint gives a menthol feeling which is very cooling like Colgate.

My Verdict.
The area is well-moisturized and hydrated. There are no flaky-skins.


Conclusion.

You only need to use in the first 2-weeks post waxing. Honestly speaking, I still have a lot left in the bottles. Based on my calculation, it should be able to last about 1 year or so (depending on how frequent you go for your waxing). Also, I strongly recommend to use both products hand-in-hand to optimize the effect.

Post- Brazilian Waxing (1 Week)

I noticed that there is not much information with regards to post-Brazilian waxing on the net. Trust me, the after-care is important as you don’t want to end up with a bad infection or over-population of zits with pus down there *urgh*

So I have no choice but to take the “wait-and-see approach” and try to settle whatever issues that comes along the way using what I would like to call the “trial-and-error method”. Of course, for first-timers like me, it is important to highlight your concerns to the therapist upfront so she can recommend products or educate you on how to handle any impending breakouts (yikes!) - after all they are the experts.

Because I am nice (as usual), I shall share with you on these tried-and-tested approaches on post-Brazilian care. Note that this is merely my own experience (it may or may not work on some individuals) and I will do a separate review post on Honeypot’s after-care products.


DID YOU KNOW?

1. After the Brazilian, I tend to head to the toilet more frequent. It is so strange! Probably it’s just a coincidence. Or the massages (don’t think dirty ok!) when I apply the Goodbye Forever! spray. *shrug*
   
   
2. Speaking about toilets, I finally understand why we have pubes under there! It is to “direct” the pee into the toilet bowl. Seriously! Without them, you have to aim properly or risk dripping/spraying it on the seat or along your thighs 0_o”. Ok... I shall stop being disgusting and stop here about the pee. Kindly forgive me on my bluntness. :)

I'VE WAXED IT OFF ... NOW WHAT??

Itchiness:

I’m not going to lie, in the first 1-3 days after waxing it was itchy down there (especially the labia area). Not because I don’t wash or I've contracted syphilis ok! It is because the hair was yanked out from the roots; hence some irritation is bound to occur. This is the same when you wax any part of your body for that matter. For me, the itchiness can be uncomfortable but bearable. Don’t worry too much because after Day 3, the itch will miraculously disappear but if it still persist you better go see a gynecologist it could be crabs

Scratch ... scratch!

What to do?

1. Scratch.
   
2. Keep your area moist hydrated. Aloe Vera gel helps as it has soothing and has natural antiseptic properties. Alternatively, after going to the toilet you can use a damp tissue and dab your area. This will actually give an immediate relieve.
3. Exfoliate the area gently everyday – this is to remove build-up dead skin cells which may clog up your pores. I have read that some al-cheapo people use facial/body scrubs. For me, I am using a product that contains Salicylic Acid (which is a gentle exfoliant).

WARNING: Not advisable to use powder as it will dry up the area and clog up the pores.

Bumps / Zits / Ingrown Hairs:There are tiny bumps around the area (looks like white heads). Apart from it looking like a skin of a steam chicken, it doesn't affect me in any other way. The bumps are actually new hair that are about to grow out from the follicle. It is advisable to take extreme care at about this time to prevent any ingrown hairs. Thank God so far I don’t have any ingrown hairs! Oh, and these ingrown hairs if infected will create zits!

Ingrown hairs are nasty – the characteristic sign is a small bump which may be reddened, itchy, or painful. Ingrown hair happens especially after shaving because the end of the hair is sharp. When the hair grows, the sharp end can re-enter the skin instead of growing upward. Although waxing remove hair from below the surface of the skin, the hair can curl back on itself as it grows. More prominent for Brazilian waxing as our pubes down there is curly. Don’t worry once the hair grows longer, the ingrown problem will be solved albeit it being very very uncomfortable.

What to do?

1. Wear loose-fitting clothing – it helps not only to prevent ingrown hair but also to minimize the itchiness as well.
   
2. Prevention is better than cure. Again exfoliate using products containing Salicylic Acid. Rub gently to free the hair. Do not scrub too hard as this will get the skin more irritated. I have been exfoliating diligently everyday since waxing and will continue to do so two weeks after the Brazilian (as advised by the experts in Honeypot).
3. Moisturize!! Please moisturize the area after exfoliating to ensure that the skin is not too dry.
   
4. Tweezing. For the gung-ho ones, you may pluck them out once you see the hairs growing out.*shudders*

It is already past one week since my first Brazilian and still no sight of ingrown hairs (hallelujah!!) and the itch is gone. The area is still smooth like a baby’s bottom except for a few short hairs. Let’s see what happens after 1-month. :)

Review : Deforestation @ Honeypot Wax Boutique

I am sure by now everyone is curios on my first Brazilian experience in Honeypot Wax Boutique. I've booked an appointment with them on Saturday at 1:15pm in their newly opened second outlet in One-Utama Old Wing (the official opening was on Friday).

Honeypot Wax Boutique - The Premise...

Although the premise is not very big, it exudes a warm and cozy atmosphere to which it immediately lightens up your mood. The interior is sexy with its distinctive hot pink and black theme color. I've got myself lost trying to locate the place but a very helpful kitty (that's what the staff/therapists are called in Honeypot) actually walked out and led me to the shop. An exemplary show of excellent customer service. :)

Honeypot also carries its own after-care products which are made from natural ingredients. All of the products are from Australia, the land down under (no pun intended). Naturally, for all the waxing session, the kitties will use Honeypot's own in-house products ensuring only the highest of quality for their customers. Plus point, I love the packaging of their products!

The Process...

For first timers, you are required to fill up a simple form on your personal details and information regarding your skin condition (e.g. allergy etc) to ascertain if you are suitable for waxing and to pre-empt the kitties so they won't be caught offguard if you have a yeast infection or something like that hehehe

Once done, you will be ushered into the examination therapy room and be asked to remove your clothing and wipe yourself with a wet wipe which is provided for. You will also be given a pink towel to wrap yourself up. The room is really small but not cluttered. I like the ambiance as the lights are dimmed and is quite soothing.

Once done, the therapist will knock on the door to be let in. My kitty for the day was Corrine - a senior therapist who has 5 years of experience under her belt. When I called up Honeypot for an appointment, I specified that it will be my first time for a Brazilian and she immediately scheduled me a senior kitty. And I have nothing but praises for Corrine. Experienced, nice, gentle, and fast. :)

The minute Corrine came in, she asked me to lie on the bed and proceeded to chat me up - I reckon this is the strategy to remove the nervousness and awkwardness.

Honeypot uses hot wax for sensitive areas - i.e. Brazilian, face, underarms, and nipple (yes some people has hairy nipples so don't laugh ok). Their signature wax is Cherry Pie Hot Wax which contains beeswax and rosin. The difference between a hot wax and a strip wax is that strip wax are those which drips really hot sticky wax on your skin and then uses paper strips to yank out your hair - typical for those in less sensitive area like your legs. The use of hot wax is very much gentler on the skin as it hardens and "wraps" the hair which doesn't tug at the skin when pulled.

No wonder during my previous underarm waxing it hurts like hell cos Tru Spa burnt me as the wax was WAY TOO hot! And my upper lips was red and sore from the traumatizing experience. T_T

The Cherry Pie Hot Wax needs to be warmed up to liquefy it and when cooled down will harden. Plus point : the smell is delicious!! The minute I walked into the room the sweet smell of cherries (like bubblegum) wafted trough the room. *swweeeeetttt*

The kitty checks on the hair down below and proceeded to trim it shorter. She then cleansed the skin and applied moisturizer. Some talcum powder is then sprinkled to keep the area dry.Then the waxing began ... she applied the Cherry Pie Hot Wax starting with the bikini line for testing. The wax is warm - to some extent it is really a nice feeling. I like it - it is very sensual :p! The minute it hardens, she pulled it off. Honestly, I didn't even feel a thing as I was talking and laughing away with Corrine. She moved on the the upper area and I still didn't feel anything.

Corrine : Wah .. you don't feel anything wan ar?
Me : Huh? You waxed already meh?

The good thing is that the minute the warm wax is applied, in one swift motion she waxed it off, and immediately applied pressure with some soothing lotion on the area. So there is almost no pain at all.And this continued on for a good 30 minutes - moving from the bikini line, the upper part, the labia, and finally the butt cleavage. For shorter hair, she tweeze it off in quick frequent motion. Contrary to other reviews, it was not even remotely painful!

All in all, it was a pleasant experience (I kid you not). And she never double-dipped the spatula. Not even once.

Corrine even convinced me to do an upper lip waxing which I initially refused because of my previous bad experience. She reassured me and I allowed her to proceed. I was amazed that it was pain-free as well!!!!

Was it painful?
No!! It was not as painful as I anticipated it to be. I was surprised myself. People who knows me knows that I have very very low tolerance to pain. On a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being the most painful, I would say 1. Trust me when I say some parts are totally painless. I didn't even feel anything at all. Of course, I did wince a teeny bit when the waxing was very close to my *ahem* - other than that it was almost PAINLESS! I am no warrior of pain ok. If I can do it, everyone can do it!

Was it embarrassing baring it all?
No!! The kitties has seen it all and yours are no different. Like I mentioned, the kitties at Honeypot made you feel very very comfortable so you don't feel awkward at all.

Do you have to go on all fours when they wax the butt cleavage?
No. You only need to lie on your side and in a jiffy its done. :)

Is it itchy down there after the waxing?
A little but very bearable. I didn't had to scratch myself in public if that's what you mean.

What are the after-care post waxing?
Immediately please refrain from exposing the area to hot water, sunbathing, and swimming for at least 1 -2 days. You don't want to end up with a nasty infection.Honeypot has an awesome range of products all imported from Australia. Albeit being on the pricey side. I feel that we should take good care of our nether region and I don't mind paying a bit more. As recommended by Corrine, I bought two products.

Believe it or not after months of considering, thinking, and chickening out time and again ... I am going for my first ever virgin Brazilian waxing tomorrow! (I can hear gasps coming out from your mouth) Yes, I think I am crazy too. And trust me, I am scared and nervous but at the same time very very excited!!! I think Bear is sexcited too

For those virgins like me, here is a compilation on what I have gathered after weeks of research on the net:

What is Brazilian Waxing?

Er... I'm sorry but which planet are you from? In layman terms, Brazilian waxing simply means removing all of the hairs down under. In case you don't know, removing all includes the front, the labia, and the butt cleavage all waxed off. *sexy!* (yes... your butt has hairs too)

Bikini waxing on the other hand is to remove hairs on the sides of the bikini line. The hairs will be neatly trimmed. Some people may opt for this as a start to gauge on how painful it is before going for a full-on Brazilian.

I am confuse! Where is the Bikini Line? 0_o"

Valid question. Wear your swimsuit/bikinis .. you see the hairs sticking out at the sides? Those area is the bikini line *gross*

How do you prepare yourself prior to a Brazilian Waxing?

1. For first timers, it is CRUCIAL that you look for a reputable, hygienic, and professional wax boutique. Make sure that the therapist do not double-dip their spatulas!!! Please don't be stingy on the $$ and compromise on these aspects. Your nether region is your most sensitive and sacred area - treat it like your little sis!
   
2. When you book an appointment, do let them know that it is your first time so that they will take the time to explain to you and recommend a more experienced therapist for you.
   
3. Try not to go 1 week before or after your period because it is more painful due to hormonal changes. If you must, go after your period. And for goodness sake, do not go during your period - please have some respect for your therapist!
   
4. You are advised to exfoliate and scrub your nether region 1 day prior to the waxing appointment. This is to remove dead skin and for the wax to adhere better.
   
5. If you shave, it is best if you wait out for about 2 weeks for the hair to grow so that the wax is able to grip the hair properly.
   
6. If pain is your major concern, you can pop 2 Panadols prior to the waxing. Personally, I don't think it is necessary unless if you are a wuss ~ hehe
   
7. Finally, on the day of the waxing .. please wash up before going ok. You don't want flies flying out from down there when you strip down. Personal hygiene ladies! And lastly, calm yourself down and try to enjoy the process .. it is not as bad as you think it is!

Why would I pay and subject myself to such a torture?

1. Vain Pot. I am not ashamed to admit it - I am vain! And in my quest for vanity, I think it is high time that I remove those unwanted hairs in my nether region. Unfortunately for me, I am quite a hairy person (for a Chinese) and waxing is the way to go.
   
2. Sexay. Come on girls, we all know that it is extremely sexy to be "bushless" down there. There is a certain sex-appeal to it.
   
3. Curiosity. Yes, I am darn curios on how would it feel like doing a Brazilian, on whether if it is painful, and how does it look like without the hairs.
   
4. Cleanliness. Men circumcise for hygiene purposes. Women do Brazilian for hygiene purposes. It is true - without the hairs it is so much more easier to clean and care for your nether region. Especially when you are having your period. Sorry don't mean to be gross.

So who will I give my Brazilian virginity to?

Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara ("JPN")

The date for our ROM has been set at 10 August 2010!!! Which is exactly 2 months away from our actual wedding date!!!!!! We intend to have a straight forward signing ceremony in JPN, then if time permits we will head for lunch. The attendees would most likely be our parents, close relatives, and really close friends only. Heck, we may even scrap off the close friends and relatives part. I guess it all depends on what our parents wants at the end of the day.

The procedure is relatively simple. You just need to prepare one passport size picture of yourself and your husband's. Fill in the forms, pick the date that you want, pay the nominal RM30 fees and voila! you are halfway to being legally married. If you want to conduct an outdoor ROM, then you would need to pay RM500 to invite the Official Registrar out. The date that you pick must be within 6 months from the application date. Your application (together with your picture) will be displayed on a board outside the office for 21 days to see if there are any disputes. On the day of your registration, you must bring the official receipt (which is issued to you on the day the application is filed), both your ICs, and two witness from each side of the couple (and of course their ICs too).


Waxing

My first waxing experience was not too bad. Lower legs was almost painless. Imagine while the therapist was waxing, I fell asleep! Upper lips was bearable but mine was really red after the entire procedure.

Face like kena slapped.

Underarms was hell! Seriously, it was so painful it's not funny ok! The therapist not only waxed, she tweezed too!! Pure torture. :( I had to endure the pain even after four days - the pain is like putting salt to a wound. I can't stand the heat. I can't stand it when fabric is swept across. It. was. horrible!! Really really horrible! So horrible that I had to carry powder with me to keep the area dry :( :( :( Now the pain has subsided tremendously, but there are still unsightly red blotches at my underarms. Hopefully it will go away before my photoshoot, or else I will have to reschedule.

Ouch!

And yes... I chickened out for the bikini waxing.


Gown Fitting


We were there from 3:15pm and stayed on until 7:30pm. That's more than 4 hours in the bridal shop! Honestly, it didn't felt that long when I was trying the gowns. Despite my discomfort from the underarm waxing, I excitedly proceeded to comb through the entire shop searching for the 'perfect dress'. For my package, I am entitled to 2 wedding gowns (indoor and outdoor photoshoot); 2 evening gowns (for indoor photoshoot); 1 kua (for indoor photoshoot); and for the actual wedding day, 1 wedding gown and 2 evening gowns (with an option to change 1 evening gown to a wedding gown). Sorry, not much photos as we weren't allowed to snap and I wanted to keep them a surprise. :) And I chose my actual day wedding gowns as well.


I ended choosing a spaghetti-strap wedding gown (which can convert to a tube-top) with a train for the outdoor photoshoot. And for the indoor photoshoot, a layered tied-back gown. As for the two evening gowns, I settled with a pink gown which is fitted with a can-can underneath. For the second evening gown, I chose a simple chiffon light blue gown. I wanted that for my actual day evening wear, but the gown is too long and really is not suitable for my height. If only I was a little taller. :(



Unfortunately, Red Bliss don't carry much cap-sleeve gowns. :( I kept my options open and selected quite a few gowns for the church wedding. I ended up narrowing down to two gowns - both tube-top gowns, one with a really nice train, and the other a wrap-around without train. I was going back and forth between these two, wearing it on and off before deciding on the one without train. I reckon that it is more practical without the train (as much as I love it), as I am not very tall and it would be a hassle.

For the dinner, I wanted a maroon coloured gown but there weren't much choices there as well. Instead, I decided on a long dark green halter gown. The dress is really simple and honestly, I am starting to have doubts. But Bear says the dress reflects who I am, someone who likes something simple. Someone who is fuss-free. And he liked it. So ok la ... I shall stick with my decision then. For the second evening gown, I changed that for another wedding gown, I chose a sleeveless gown that has a simple cheongsam design at the top. Basically, it is pretty much covered up at the top, but the unique design and elegance of the gown is at the back. It has red buttons all the way down to a looonnng train. The motifs on the train and the bottom of the gown is in red. Really pretty. :)

The-Bride-Who-is-Still-Doubtful-Over-Her-Decision

Of Roti Canai, JPN , Waxing & Gown Fitting

This coming Thursday aka March 18, me and Bear took leave as we have a few things to clear off and can only be done on a weekend. Firstly, the day will start off with us having a hearty roti canai and teh tarik meal at our favorite mamak, Sunraj or Raju's in Jalan Gasing. Thereafter, we will be heading to the JPN in PJ States to do the necessary documentation for our Registration of Marriage ("ROM"). Well, I bought my ROM dress already during our last visit to Wedding Isle, just that the date has not been set yet. Well, both of us are not too particular, so we shall decide on Thursday itself.

At 12:00pm, we will be off to True Spa in Jaya 33 for Bear to have a 2 hours massage session and me aka the hairy bride will go for a 2 hours waxing session (Ouch!). Honestly, this is my first waxing attempt in the quest to be beautiful! Damn I am vain! Why 2 hours? Cos I intend to wax my upper lips, lower legs, and underarms - and if I am not deep in convulsions of pain yet, I may try the bikini line waxing. I said I may only ok!


After the torturing session, we will have our lunch before proceeding to Red Bliss for my FIRST. GOWN. FITTING. SESSION~ *screeeeaaammmmssssss* (that explains the waxing now, isn't it?). We scheduled an appointment at 3:00pm. After signing up with their package for almost 2 years ahead, I can't believe that I am trying on gowns now! Time flies! *shiok* This fitting is mostly for my photoshoot which is scheduled on April 9. I will go in for a second fitting on August 14 for the actual wedding day.

Here is one piece of advise: The minute you see a gown you like, BOOK IT FIRST! Don't be fickle and think that better ones will come along at a later date/time. Most of time, it does not happen.

I have not decided on what sort of gown I want for the photoshoot. I am open for ideas actually. But on my actual wedding day, I am hoping that I can find capped-sleeves lace gown for the church wedding and a mandarin-collared lace gown for the first march-in of the dinner banquet. Well, am keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Before I post the mandarin-collar gown up. The picture below is taken from My Bridal Gown which is based in Sunwaymas Commercial Center. I actually tried on the gown before and I loved it so much! It fitted me just nicely and my goodness I it looked so elegant!! Unfortunately, both me and Bear thought that it was not practical to buy one. Gotta say, it took a lot of my willpower to stop myself from purchasing it. This piece is retailing for RM650-RM750 I think, if I remember correctly.
