I noticed that there is not much information with regards to post-Brazilian waxing on the net. Trust me, the after-care is important as you don’t want to end up with a bad infection or over-population of zits with pus down there *urgh*
So I have no choice but to take the “wait-and-see approach” and try to settle whatever issues that comes along the way using what I would like to call the “trial-and-error method”. Of course, for first-timers like me, it is important to highlight your concerns to the therapist upfront so she can recommend products or educate you on how to handle any impending breakouts (yikes!) - after all they are the experts.
Because I am nice (as usual), I shall share with you on these tried-and-tested approaches on post-Brazilian care. Note that this is merely my own experience (it may or may not work on some individuals) and I will do a separate review post on Honeypot’s after-care products.
DID YOU KNOW?

DID YOU KNOW?
- After the Brazilian, I tend to head to the toilet more frequent. It is so strange! Probably it’s just a coincidence. Or the massages (don’t think dirty ok!) when I apply the Goodbye Forever! spray. *shrug*
- Speaking about toilets, I finally understand why we have pubes under there! It is to “direct” the pee into the toilet bowl. Seriously! Without them, you have to aim properly or risk dripping/spraying it on the seat or along your thighs 0_o”. Ok... I shall stop being disgusting and stop here about the pee. Kindly forgive me on my bluntness. :)
I'VE WAXED IT OFF ... NOW WHAT??
Itchiness:
I’m not going to lie, in the first 1-3 days after waxing it was itchy down there (especially the labia area). Not because I don’t wash or I've contracted syphilis ok! It is because the hair was yanked out from the roots; hence some irritation is bound to occur. This is the same when you wax any part of your body for that matter. For me, the itchiness can be uncomfortable but bearable. Don’t worry too much because after Day 3, the itch will miraculously disappear but if it still persist you better go see a gynecologist it could be crabs
Scratch ... scratch!
What to do?
Scratch.- Keep your area
moisthydrated. Aloe Vera gel helps as it has soothing and has natural antiseptic properties. Alternatively, after going to the toilet you can use a damp tissue and dab your area. This will actually give an immediate relieve. - Exfoliate the area gently everyday – this is to remove build-up dead skin cells which may clog up your pores. I have read that some
al-cheapopeople use facial/body scrubs. For me, I am using a product that contains Salicylic Acid (which is a gentle exfoliant).
WARNING: Not advisable to use powder as it will dry up the area and clog up the pores.
Bumps / Zits / Ingrown Hairs:There are tiny bumps around the area (looks like white heads). Apart from it looking like a skin of a steam chicken, it doesn't affect me in any other way. The bumps are actually new hair that are about to grow out from the follicle. It is advisable to take extreme care at about this time to prevent any ingrown hairs. Thank God so far I don’t have any ingrown hairs! Oh, and these ingrown hairs if infected will create zits!
Ingrown hairs are nasty – the characteristic sign is a small bump which may be reddened, itchy, or painful. Ingrown hair happens especially after shaving because the end of the hair is sharp. When the hair grows, the sharp end can re-enter the skin instead of growing upward. Although waxing remove hair from below the surface of the skin, the hair can curl back on itself as it grows. More prominent for Brazilian waxing as our pubes down there is curly. Don’t worry once the hair grows longer, the ingrown problem will be solved albeit it being very very uncomfortable.
Upclose on ingrown hairs - I know it's kinda disgusting.
Notice that the hair grows "sideways" because the
sharp ends pierced into the skin? The red bumps are infection.
What to do?
- Wear loose-fitting clothing – it helps not only to prevent ingrown hair but also to minimize the itchiness as well.
- Prevention is better than cure. Again exfoliate using products containing Salicylic Acid. Rub gently to free the hair. Do not scrub too hard as this will get the skin more irritated. I have been exfoliating diligently everyday since waxing and will continue to do so two weeks after the Brazilian (as advised by the experts in Honeypot).
- Moisturize!! Please moisturize the area after exfoliating to ensure that the skin is not too dry.
- Tweezing. For the gung-ho ones, you may pluck them out once you see the hairs growing out.*shudders*
It is already past one week since my first Brazilian and still no sight of ingrown hairs (hallelujah!!) and the itch is gone. The area is still smooth like a baby’s bottom except for a few short hairs. Let’s see what happens after 1-month. :)

I've been browsing on how to maintain waxed hair after I've undergone Brazilian Waxing, now here it is thanks for posting it here.
ReplyDeleteMost welcome :)
ReplyDeleteThis was very helpful! Thanks so much
ReplyDeleteWhy do I get bumps and itchy about two weeks after? I am very clean, exfoliate etc. Any help on treatment?
ReplyDeleteI find that applying baby oil liberally on the area after a brazilian is the best thing. I do this like a few times a day (each time after I use the bathroom). It's also a bit stingy after you go, so I place a wet wad of tissues there to calm it down and then i apply the oil. I don't find any bumps, ingrown hairs, itching or anything. About 2 weeks later when hair's coming back, it feels itchy for a day or two, but not too bad.
ReplyDeletei dare not apply oil.. scared will clog the pores
ReplyDeleteThe molecules in baby or mineral oil are non-comedogenic. (experienced in full body waxing and facial services)
DeleteAnonymous : maybe your skin is sensitive? try getting their products. hopefully it helps
ReplyDeleteI don't know how baby oil would really clog the pores because I never see babies with a breakout of pimples :) My pores there don't get clogged, as far as I know.
ReplyDeleteThe number one thing that one should NOT do after waxing is touching the area. The skin is still sensitive, so touching it can cause irritation or small pimples. If you’re curious and want to touch the area or wear fashionably fit clothes, be patient and wait after 48 hours. Anyway, how did you feel after a few weeks have passed?
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Justine Cricks
It felt smooth ! :p haahaha.. no irritation whatsoever
ReplyDeleteWhat if there's break out of red bumps with puss?what do I apply?
ReplyDeletewitch hazel and pfb
DeleteI seriously don't know. Maybe you should check out with the shop where you did your waxing or from a skin specialist? Allergic reaction or could possibly by ingrown hair
ReplyDeleteAnother after-care treatment that you should do is to damp your skin with warm cloth, especially when it's done at home. Then apply generous amount of moisturizer afterward. This is to avoid getting ingrown hair, which can be irritating.

I had my wax 2 weeks ago and now I'm breaking out itchy n pimples. I don't know if they done something different as I've been waxing since january and now for the past 2 waxes I have broken out. They gave me an exfoliate but its not working. It looks horrible any other suggestions?
ReplyDeletewitch hazel and pfb
Deleteyou are so right about the peeing!!! i thought that was just me!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the peeing!!!
ReplyDeleteSomeone should write a guide book for girls!! If not for the net I'd be so lost!!
thanks a bunch for ur post! Really helped! One question though, can I yank out an ingrown hair with a twiser if it looks possible? Or would that cause more trouble?
i think tweezing ingrown hair is no issue - provided is you know how to do it. For me, I'll leave it to the professionals.
ReplyDeletehahaha.. you girls also had trouble with the pee department eh? ;p
I've bern getting Brazilian wax for years now never had an irritation or itchiness right afterwards but now the last 2 times experinced big time itchiness. For couple of day then nothing what have you use that works??? It's really bad to the point that woke me up in the middle of the. Night
ReplyDeleteAnon: have you been lotioning afterwards? That always helps me!
ReplyDeleteThen I just think about why we're putting ourselves through this torture... porn culture?
ReplyDeleteAhh...thank you for this post. I just had brazillian wax an hour ago and she put some kind of lotion when she finished..so when I was about to pay for the service, the itching starts! It is so crazy so I went to the restroom to wash it off..but still can feel itchiness down there so I panicked and bought baby oil to calm the itchiness down...
ReplyDeleteIt helps a lot..the baby oil..
If your skin is angry and sore soon after keep the area cool and apply calamine lotion or whitch Hazel to promote healing of the damaged pores. These are both mild analgesics.
ReplyDeleteWish I'd known and bought some before my first time. Had to wait 18 uncomfortable hours for what was almost instant relief.
I have a spray called Sooth-a-caine that is for sunburns, but I have used it after a brazilian and it works very well. Not only does it sooth the burning and irritation but it does help with the itching a bit too. It doesn't make it go away completely, but it does help.
ReplyDeleteI don't get wha the big deal is. If you go to a professional place, you aren't left with any irritation. Either they apply an oil, or you apply baby oil once you get home. From then on you're good. Just don't wipe too hard when you go to the loo. Otherwise, it's fine. Redness is not necessarily an infection - it's just irritation. People get that after shaving as well. It's not an infection and doesn't need to be bombarded with medicated ointments or anything.
ReplyDeleteWhat can you exfoliate with? this is my first time and unfortunately.I've read all of this too late, and are now having problems :(
ReplyDeleteI feel you.
DeleteUse a loofah in the shower daily and gently exfoliate and thats it, best not to use any scented scrubs or products etc as it can cause dryness and irritation. Moisturize with aloe vera gel or non scented oil or lotion .
Deletefacial scrub works well for exfoliating, especially human nature strawberry facial scrub, since it has all natural ingredients which is safer than applying products with acid components. using facial scrub down there is not "cheap". bottomline, what's important is what works best for each individual.
ReplyDeleteGosh! What a gem. You're the best. Best advice ever... my itch and bumps started appearing about 3 days ago. That's like 2 weeks since I waxed... thanks a buncho. With your advice I'll try to minimise the bumps and prevent it from getting any worse. Mwah.
ReplyDeleteCan you plz suggest any cream for red bumps ?

ReplyDeletehow to get rid of ingrown hairs
I just had my first waxing 2 days ago, still itchy. I've been using lotion after showering to keep it from drying out. Do you think that is alright or should I switch to aloe instead?
ReplyDeleteUhm hey! I had mine yesterday too. How long did you have to wait before taking a shower?
