We stayed in Sherwood Manor which is a double-storey motel for 4D3N in Queenstown and again this place is also very cosy and beautiful! The motel faces a lake and is really pretty. Not to mention very centralized location too. Now for those who are travelling to New Zealand, I strongly suggest that you spend a couple more days in Queenstown. It is such a happening place and there are so much of outdoor activities for you to do!
Our backyard of the motel. Very English-Victorian like. |
Our beautiful lake view. |
And when you talk about Queenstown, no stay would be complete until you pay a visit to Fergburger. According to Bear and my cousin, the burgers there are yummy-licious! Well, judging from the massive crowd, I would think so. And they are open till 5am.
Ferg also has a bakery too which serves awesome pies!! |
Remember this store ok!! Must go when you are in Queenstown. |
The following day, we started the day early at 7:00am *groans* for our Milford Sound trip. Another one of those "must-visit" places when you are in Queenstown. The journey in itself took us about 3 hours in a sit-in coach. Not to worry, the coach is all encased with see-through windows all 180 degrees - yes that means up on the ceiling too. Our driver-cum-commentator for the day was Roland and he was really good! There were also stops for pictures and toilet-breaks. So all in all, it was an eye-opener of a journey.
Pretty mountain. |
Te Anau is the so-called main point where some passengers were dropped off and for the bus to refill its tank. It is a 30 minutes stop so you may enjoy a cuppa or shop around in the souvenir shops.
Along the way, as we made our way up the mountain and down again in the valley, the landscape changed tremendously. From greens, to less-dense vegetation, to zero greens, and to fully snowed-covered roads.
Noticed that there are very little greens here. It was really windy and cold. |
As we scale the mountain, all we see was snow. |
We were told that there are no large predators in New Zealand. There are however a lot of rare bird species (some are even extinct). The Kea is a parrot native to New Zealand. It is a protected species which is almost in extinction. These parrots are really mischievous and they love to peck on rubber (I have no idea why).
Kea - Such a privilege to be able to see it in its natural habitat. |
Once we are up the mountain, we need to ascend down on very steep and slippery roads. It was wet and covered with snow. Avalanche is very common here *shudder*. It was quite freaky la.. what if we plunge down and all die.
That is how far down you will plunge. |
FYI, Milford Sound is the wettest inhibited place in New Zealand and probably the wettest in the world. So naturally, when we were there is was raining, gloomy, and cloudy. Kinda reminds me of Twilight. Now I know how Forks in US looks and feels like. I half expect to see Edward Cullen in between the trees and Jacob Black *drools* scooting around in the bushes. Without Bella of course. :p
Milford Sound. |
Our packed healthy lunch which was provided for. |
We boarded a boat which took us around the sea to admire the numerous waterfalls cascading down the cliffs. Really magnificent. Of course because of the rain, we can't really get good views and the sea was really choppy. The boat ride takes about 2 hours.
Waterfall cascading down the cliff. |
There are two huge-ass waterfalls called - Lady Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls which the captain will steer the boat closer so we could feel the water spraying on our faces.
Happy .. and cold |
Pounding rain and wind |
All soaking wet. What an experience!! |
The entire trip took us the whole day. By the time we reached our motel, it was already 7:30pm. We quickly bath and had a fast fish & chips dinner in Queenstown. Extremely tired but so worth the trip!
Love;
Mrs Lee
