Brazilian Waxing 101

Believe it or not after months of considering, thinking, and chickening out time and again ... I am going for my first ever virgin Brazilian waxing tomorrow! (I can hear gasps coming out from your mouth) Yes, I think I am crazy too. And trust me, I am scared and nervous but at the same time very very excited!!! I think Bear is sexcited too

For those virgins like me, here is a compilation on what I have gathered after weeks of research on the net:

What is Brazilian Waxing?

Er... I'm sorry but which planet are you from? In layman terms, Brazilian waxing simply means removing all of the hairs down under. In case you don't know, removing all includes the front, the labia, and the butt cleavage all waxed off. *sexy!* (yes... your butt has hairs too)

Bikini waxing on the other hand is to remove hairs on the sides of the bikini line. The hairs will be neatly trimmed. Some people may opt for this as a start to gauge on how painful it is before going for a full-on Brazilian.

I am confuse! Where is the Bikini Line? 0_o"

Valid question. Wear your swimsuit/bikinis .. you see the hairs sticking out at the sides? Those area is the bikini line *gross*

How do you prepare yourself prior to a Brazilian Waxing?

1. For first timers, it is CRUCIAL that you look for a reputable, hygienic, and professional wax boutique. Make sure that the therapist do not double-dip their spatulas!!! Please don't be stingy on the $$ and compromise on these aspects. Your nether region is your most sensitive and sacred area - treat it like your little sis!
   
2. When you book an appointment, do let them know that it is your first time so that they will take the time to explain to you and recommend a more experienced therapist for you.
   
3. Try not to go 1 week before or after your period because it is more painful due to hormonal changes. If you must, go after your period. And for goodness sake, do not go during your period - please have some respect for your therapist!
   
4. You are advised to exfoliate and scrub your nether region 1 day prior to the waxing appointment. This is to remove dead skin and for the wax to adhere better.
   
5. If you shave, it is best if you wait out for about 2 weeks for the hair to grow so that the wax is able to grip the hair properly.
   
6. If pain is your major concern, you can pop 2 Panadols prior to the waxing. Personally, I don't think it is necessary unless if you are a wuss ~ hehe
   
7. Finally, on the day of the waxing .. please wash up before going ok. You don't want flies flying out from down there when you strip down. Personal hygiene ladies! And lastly, calm yourself down and try to enjoy the process .. it is not as bad as you think it is!

Why would I pay and subject myself to such a torture?

1. Vain Pot. I am not ashamed to admit it - I am vain! And in my quest for vanity, I think it is high time that I remove those unwanted hairs in my nether region. Unfortunately for me, I am quite a hairy person (for a Chinese) and waxing is the way to go.
   
2. Sexay. Come on girls, we all know that it is extremely sexy to be "bushless" down there. There is a certain sex-appeal to it.
   
3. Curiosity. Yes, I am darn curios on how would it feel like doing a Brazilian, on whether if it is painful, and how does it look like without the hairs.
   
4. Cleanliness. Men circumcise for hygiene purposes. Women do Brazilian for hygiene purposes. It is true - without the hairs it is so much more easier to clean and care for your nether region. Especially when you are having your period. Sorry don't mean to be gross.

So who will I give my Brazilian virginity to?

Review : Kao Liese Moisturizing Hair Cocktail (Light)

After doing my own hair coloring using Kao Liese Bubble Hair Color, I am a new fan of Liese products. So I did my own research and there are a lot of good reviews on its hair care range as well - in particular the Liese Moisturizing Hair Cocktail. Yes, their products has funky names and comes in cute packaging too. :) Liese Hair Cocktail is a bi-layered hair serum with nourishing water and anti-frizz oil which is filled with peach leaf extract and prune essence. The product comes in light (for less damaged and dry hair) and normal (for more damaged and dry hair).

I bought the light one which is green in color. The normal one is orange in color. As you can see, the top layer is the anti-frizz oil, whereas the lower layer is the nourishing water (i.e. the serum).

What you need to do is before using is to shake the bottle (hence the name cocktail :p) to mix it well and it will look like your honeydew pearl milk tea :).

Squeeze a little onto your palm - about 1.5cm and rub your hands together. Run your fingers through your hair with the serum. You may use it when your hair is damp or dry. If need be, you may apply more. Note: Use the serum sparingly as you don't want your hair looking very limp.

What I love about the hair serum is that:

1) The effect is immediate - your hair is so soft to touch!

2) I love the fresh smell of peaches on my hair.

3) Easy to use

4) Tames the split ends

5) Nourishes and moisturize the hair

6) I have a good hair day - everyday!!

7) Pricing is reasonable at RM28/= in Guardian

Review : Kao Liese Bubble Hair Color - Mocha Orange

I've been dying wanting to try the Kao Liese (pronounced as Li-Say) products since watching their advertisement in the cinema. I finally got my hands on their BUBBLE HAIR COLOR i.e. you just apply foam on your hair and massage - like shampooing. The foam will reach all your hair easily and as a result the coloring will be even. As easy as ABC. Fantastico!

Actually I bought it at Sasa impulsively when my colleague was buying her mascara.

Anyway, my colleague convinced me to choose Mocha Orange. Yes, you heard right. Orange. After buying, I was a little bit skeptical because I don't want to end up looking like an ah lian. But then I was thinking .. heck it la.. if really look like one then I will buy another bottle and re-dye again. :p

You don't have to worry about getting too confuse on the steps because the instructions are written all over the box and in a leaflet which is provided for. Remember, before dying you are to do an allergy test on the back of your arm 48 hours before using it on your hair. Of course, I didn't bother doing the allergy test. Hehe~

In the box, you will have the following items:

1) Solution 1 (the small brown bottle)

2) Solution 2 (the big transparent bottle)

3) Foamer Cap

4) Gloves

5) Nourishing Hair Lotion

6) Instruction Leaflet

If you are too lazy to read the lengthy instruction leaflet, you can opt to follow this easy pictorial step-by-step guide by yours truly me. :)

Step 1:

Here are your Solution 1 (right) and Solution 2 (left)

Step 2:

Pour Solution 1 into Solution 2.

Step 3:

Mix them both together by turning the bottle up and down gently (around 5 times). DO NOT SHAKE THE BOTTLE VIGOROUSLY TO AVOID PRODUCING FOAM INSIDE THE BOTTLE.

Step 4:

Replace the white cap with the pink foamer cap.

Step 5:

Wear your gloves and squeeze the bottle gently to get a sizeable foam unto your palm. This is to test that the foam is not too runny else it may get into your eyes. If it is runny, then you can turn the bottle up and down again gently a couple more times.

Step 6:

Apple the foam on your hair - just like how you shampoo your hair. To ensure that there are no tangles, run through your fingers in your hair.

Step 7:

Leave on for about 30 minutes and wash off. Voila~ and you are done coloring your own hair!! After that, apply the nourishing cream to moisture your hair - you may apply it on damp or dry hair. The smell is AWESOME!

And there's it. All I can say is that IT WORKS!!! I am fascinated! Why would I strongly recommend this product to others:

1) It is easy to use

2) It doesn't drip and stain everywhere

3) It is cheap - Kao Liese Bubble Hair Color is priced at RM38/=

4) The ammonia smell is not strong

5) The nourishing cream smells heavenly

6) It has 10 awesome range of colors!!!

What was the outcome? No I didn't turned lala ... but because naturally I have jet-black hair the color is not as light as I hoped it would be. Not to worry, I intend to try other lighter colors again. :)

Pain Ball

Last Saturday, I went for a pain paintball competition with my company. Don't asked me why I signed up most probably to gain brownie points from my boss. The minute I saw the itinerary I regretted - we had to be there at 7:30am ON A SATURDAY MORNING! A NON-WORKING DAY! -.-"

Anyway, we lost all 4 sets (heh!~) except for one which we won by default cos the opponent took off his mask in the middle of the game. :p All in all, I am ok with the whole pain paintball thingy. Was it painful? Nah .. not really. It is like when you knock yourself against a door and you have a blue-black kinda pain. Very very bearable. And the paint is washable ya, so fret not. :)

Gotta say the bruises were kinda cool though - people thought that Bear abused me. :p Best part is that some of the bruises only starts showing the day after.

Battle Scar #1: Before

As you can see, there is one on the knee and one on my thighs. Not very visible actually, I only found out about these two in the night.

This was on the back back of my arms. It was red and swollen. The circle is the area where the bullet hit - they are NOT ringworms ya!!!

Battle Scar #2: After

One day after that and voila~ it is REALLY REALLY bad and swollen. I think my entire capillaries on my left arm broke into pieces. :(

Battle Scar #3: Before

At the battlefield, this bruise was the most "seong" wan. The area where the bullet hit directly was raw and painful. I thought after a day, this bruise will be massive.

Battle Scar #3: After

Surprisingly, it is not. But when I touch it, I can still feel the "burning" sensation though. Bearable and not searing pain.

Battle Scar #4: Before and After Combo

Need to do a brief introduction on this one, I totally didn't realize that I had a bruise on my left hamstring until after day 1 in the night! This was really kau-kau wan .. because after day 2 when my other battle scars are subsiding, this one is still very prominent and is a large patch. Looks like I wont be wearing skirt to work for a very very long time.

Massive!

Will I play again? Definitely!

Just not in a competitive kinda environment la.

Snippets : Half Year into 2011

Exercising:
I have been consistantly going for my Jazzercise class save for the whole of last month. My stamina has yet to improve as I will be panting for air halfway through class. The cycle will go something like this :

7:30pm - Still feeling semangat. Kinda.
7:45pm - Start to regret going for class
7:55pm - Hallucinate that I will faint anytime
8:00pm - Keep staring at the damn clock willing it to move faster
8:15pm - Start to enjoy the toning up session
8:20pm - Start to regret being so gungho carrying a 2x5kg dumbell
8:25pm - Feels good to streetccchhhh
8:30pm - Can't wait to get back to class again.

Losing Weight:
I have been trying to avoid eating carbs during dinner to try to shed off some kilos. Some of my colleagues suggested that I go without dinner all-together. Personally, I think that they are mad. Gotta say I did alright for two days only and then most of the time occasionally I caved into half a bowl of rice. Aiihh.. kecewa betul ...

Despite my combined efforts of exercising and (kind of) watching my diet, I've only lost a measly 1kg. :( Losing weight is harder than I thought. Anyone can recommend me good packages to slimming centres?

Work:
God has been faithful all along the way :) Difficult people He removed. Difficult situation He gave me the wisdom to overcome. There were changes in terms of movement of staff but He has been good to me - he has placed amazing people whom I can work with and can mentor me. I seriously have nothing to complain about. Thank God for his favor and blessing upon me. :)

Marriage:
Being a Mrs has been an enjoyable journey (so far). Hubby has been treating me good and he has an uncanny liking to household chores (yeah to me!). I have gotten used to not staying with my parents and having to stay by myself sometimes in the night. I have also learn to compromise and not be petty when the hubby needs to spend time with his male-buddies (i.e. sports).

Entertainment:
Totally irrelevant but I am into Dog Whisperer now. Ceaser Milan you da man!

Pregnancy:
Don't get too excited just yet. I am not pregnant. And I don't understand why people around me has been asking me if I am pregnant or not. Hellooo.. gaining weight does not equal to pregnancy hor.

Some said my hips are big = pregnant.
NOT TRUE! I have fat huge ass assets.
Both front AND back *ahem*
And proud of it! :D ask my hubby .. he is not complaning

Despite that, sometimes I do have the instinct to want to have my own kid soon (labour pain put aside first). But other times, I don't want to so fast as I still want to enjoy and hang out with my friends in clubs and pubs. Oh well, let's see how it goes.

Annoying People:
Yes, I have encountered a few annoying ones here and there - some are close to me some are mere acquitances. But anoying nontheless. I wonder how can some people think so highly of themselves - in the expense of putting others down?

Sorry but actual people who are actually good at what they are doing usually don't brag. Stupid people does - like those tin kosong. When you bang an empty tong, it creates noise. Yup, noise and annoyance. Nothing else.

Travelling:
Can't wait to head to New Zealand in August with my family!!!!!! I refuse to think about the 13 hours gruelling flight

Also another one to a SECRET PLACE for my birthday-cum-first year anniversary in September. Will be hijacking the husband to a deserted island with no telephone reception. muahahaahhaaha~ All I can reveal is that the place is a 5-star resort on a paradise island. *can't wait!!*

Review: Bread Basket, The Sphere Bangsar South

The first time I went to Bread Basket in The Sphere, Bangsar South was to use my cheap coupons from MilkaDeal. For RM15.90 I am entitled to 2 sandwiches + 1 pastries + 2 savouries + 2 hot drinks. Who can say no to that right?


A little background information : Bread Basket was opened by a Swiss guy who has a passion for fresh homemade oven-baked bread - hence their tagline "Swissly Fresh". Trust me when I say that their breads are yummylicious! Yup, certified by our very own Chef Wan.


Here is their selection of pastries - they don't have a wide variety of choices like your Kings Confectionary or Bakers Cottage, but EVERY SINGLE ONE of Bread Basket's pastries are awesome and not soggy and stale like some confectionaries.


Bear in mind that Bread Basket does not serve funky beverages like Starbucks. Their main focus are on the bread/pastries. However, they do serve German Coffee - very strong, which I like! Of course they also serve your usual simple milo and tea. And because of that, for every receipt that is RM10, you are entitled for a free hot drink! :D *happiness!*


The setup of the shop is rather small - it is more of an alfresco dining kinda experience. Do note that it could get a little hot especially in our humid weather.


And here is out FOOD!! True to its "Swissly Fresh" tagline, the bread is fantastic!! The croissant is soft but yet crisp. Really really good bread :)


Below are the mushroom strudel, banana strudel, and apple strudel. Also awesome! Tip: Do ask the waitress to warm up the bread for you.


Our drinks. Notice that all of their food and beverages comes in a basket. I feel so Paris~ian (if there is such word). Nice touch. :) Oh one tip, take the German Coffee mild and add with fresh milk - AWESOMENESS!


I have returned with Bear since our first visit THRICE. Reason because it is near to our place, price is reasonable, and the food is good for tea time - instead of your usual kuih and goreng stuff.

Would definately recommend to pay a visit to the place. They are open on Monday to Saturday from 8:00am to 10:00pm, and closed on Sundays.

Open Letter to the 16-year Old Me

-Was inspired to write about this after reading from other blogs -

Hello you,

At 16, you have a close set of friends who are aptly called The Slim Shady Group. We even have a designated spot in school and some sort of a “handshake sign”. You wont be that close anymore with these friends but you will make it a point to gather at least once a year during Chinese New Year for a catch-up session over dinner. In fact, you will be going on a weekend trip to Langkawi with them 11 years later in May 2011.

At 16, you thought you will end up having a career which is science related – most likely along the lines of pharmacy. Your dream is to be a veterinarian because you love animals. Pharmacy was your parents’ choice.

At 16, you began to develop some sort of an inferiority complex. It will last though to your college/university years. You feel ugly and inadequate. You compare yourselves against your girlfriends. Sometimes you feel depress. Don’t worry, you will snap out of it eventually. Thank God.

At 16, being in an all-girls school you start to try to get attention of boys. In a tuition centre. It will be the same tuition centre that your younger brother goes to 10 years later. You somehow managed to catch the attention of one particular boy – who turned out to be your boyfriend eventually. For 1-week. It will be your first time holding hands. That’s it. From time to time, you will still see him around your housing area because he lives nearby. It will still be awkward even 10 years later.

At 16, in the same tuition center, you developed a major crush on a person – who is half a twin. Unfortunately, the whole world somehow knew about it. Even him. It was embarrassing because you will start to stalk him, doodle his name on papers, and fantasize about him. 10 years later, you wonder what you see in him back then. Because he is not even remotely good looking / charming.

At 17, your Ah Ma will pass away unexpectedly from pneumonia. Everyone will be in shock. But good things came out of it, because by year end you and your family accepted Christ. You also scored 2As, some Bs, and Cs for your SPM. Not exactly great because you have always been a top scorer in both UPSR and PMR. Don’t get upset, because you will soon realize that SPM is just a piece of paper and holds no value in the working world.

At 18, you will go on to do your A-Levels in Science. In the end, your career won’t even have anything to do with Science at all.

You will begin to ponder if you will ever find a boyfriend, get married, and settled down at the rate you are going.

Your dream of owning a dog will come true round about this time. You will name him Max.

In university, you gave up on Science and changed direction to do a Business course – you tried Accounting (failed!) and settled for Economics and Finance. Secretly, you hate finance. Yes, years later… you will still hate finance.

At 19, you finally dated a guy from church. He is 3 years your senior. Initially, you will not be attracted to him because he is rather big in size compared to your petite figure. You should give him a chance because he will turn out to be a great guy. He will end up becoming your steady boyfriend for 7 years. He will be your first love, your first kiss, your first everything *ahem*. In those 7 years, you will see that he is a caring, sincere, and genuine guy. You will end up marrying him when you are 27.

Since you always wonder about whether if you will ever be successful in the working world given that your character is timid and shy, trust me when I say that you will end up becoming a corporate banker in a prestigious organization with great pay, increment, and bonus. You also will have a close bunch of colleagues whom you often club and bitch with

Initially, you cry sometimes because of the pressure and you are clueless on what is going on. All you have to do is persevere and work hard. Because within a short span of 3 years you got yourself promoted. Well done girl!

Oh yes, and you jumped job once.

I am proud to inform you; in the next 10 years of your life, you will do great and climb the corporate ladder steadily. You have God in your life. You have a loving husband by your side. Your family members are all healthy. Along the way, you will experience the passing on of some of your relatives, which I shall not elaborate. Not to worry, you will emerge out of the whole ordeal strong and will take a whole new approach in life.

On when will you be a mother, you have to ask yourself 15 years down the road ok.
