Some may or may not know but Bear and me has bought our first love nest house already; specifically a condo, which is a stone's throw away from my current place. We have started servicing our loan and the renovation works is underway.
Our unit is on the 20th floor, spans over an area of 1,900 sq ft, and has high ceiling. I would say we are rather pleased with the purchase. The only setback is that the rooms and bathrooms are so small!!! No offense but the developer sucked big time at maximizing spaces. AND it doesn't have a store room. But that would be a secondary issue as we are creating one out. :)
Living Hall / Dining Area / Foyer.
We uprooted the existing tilings and are planning to replace them with new 2x2 tiles. The existing plaster ceiling was removed as the design was old and it looks rather ugly. We smoothen it out and replaced them with recessed ceilings and down-lights. Hopefully, the overall ambiance created will be soft and warm. Of course, we are adding more plug points, lights, and air-conds. And to top it up, the windows will be fitted with roller-blinds instead of curtains.
In the living area, we are also carving up some space to create a store room. Basically, the wall of the store will double up as a panel for our TV (which will be flushed in), so that it will not be strange to suddenly have a room in the middle of the hall.
This is the most major renovation of the entire condo. We relocated the entrance of the kitchen to create a more open concept. Yup, a lot of hacking and patching up was done. We also removed the existing kitchen cabinets. The concept which we are creating would be very clean and contemporary.
Bathroom
This is the most headache of all!! The bathrooms are really really small so we didn't have a choice but to remove everything out (read: the WC, the sink etc) and reposition everything to maximize the space. Plumbing also has been an issue. Well, we shall wait and see how is the outcome. We've also decided to go contemporary and modern with the design of the bathrooms.
Rooms
We are not doing much to the rooms except to laminate the floor, re-paint the wardrobe, add more plug points, and more lightings.
Well, so far we can see that the progress is about 70% done and the expected date for completion is end of April. Can't wait to see the final outcome!! And of course, we will be inviting close relatives and friends for our open house!
p/s: Hopefully Bear will know how to maintain the place since he will be moving in by himself first.
Love;
